ERC20 vs Native Tokens

I've got about 100 MATIC tokens, so not a big stash or anything but I have a question that pertains to future staking. I've been buying what I now understand to be ERC-20 tokens on Coinbase Pro and i was thinking of staking in the future on Ledger Live. I think I now understand that this is not ideal for staking on Ledger Live and I would need native MATIC tokens for staking. I'm not particularly interested in converting the coins, because I don't want to pay tax until later. So do i need to find an exchange that supports native MATIC tokens and buy from there from now on? Does anyone know of any? Am I missing any considerations?
