Running a node

Hi, I am a complete noob and was wondering if anyone could link me or explain what running a node is and how to do it on my machine. Not even sure my PC can handle it quickly, I have a Ryzen 3600XT, 32GB RAM and if relevant, an RTX 2060. To be honest I'm really just looking to buy and hold long term for now, but I want to get as in depth an understanding of all aspects of Monero as possible. Finding it somewhat overwhelming at first to be honest 😕 Many thanks in advance
