Cannot download blockchain (errors from bitmonero.log included).

I have a 31 GB file in ~/.bitmonero/lmdb/data.mdb. However, it got stopped in June. Whenever I try to download the blockchain from the GUI, I get "wating for the daemon to start" and "daemon failed to start". Doing ./monerod leads to "Segmentation fault (core dumped)". The error messages from bitmonero.log are: 2019-11-27 14:54:15.767 7f088b00c780 INFO global src/daemon/main.cpp:271 Monero 'Carbon Chamaeleon' (v0.15.0.1-release) 2019-11-27 14:54:15.768 7f088b00c780 INFO global contrib/epee/src/net_ssl.cpp:127 Generating SSL certificate 2019-11-27 14:54:18.850 7f088b00c780 ERROR msgwriter src/common/scoped_message_writer.h:102 Error: Couldn't connect to daemon: 127.0.0.1:18081 2019-11-27 14:55:18.487 7f7718714780 INFO logging contrib/epee/src/mlog.cpp:273 New log categories: *:WARNING,net:FATAL,net.http:FATAL,net.ssl:FATAL,net.p2p:FATAL,net.cn:FATAL,global:INFO,verify:FATAL,serialization:FATAL,daemon.rpc.payment:ERROR,stacktrace:INFO,logging:INFO,msgwriter:INFO Any ideas? Netstat shows nothing at port 18081.
