The staking activation queue just jumped to 8 days

In the past week the withdrawal queue has fallen from 18 to 12 days. The activation queue has been steady around 1-2 hours since withdrawals began. Then yesterday or today the activation queue exploded from 2 hours to 8 days. What happened?
