Side Chains/Rollups Question

Do the activities on side chains and rollups cause ETH burn on the main chain? Trying to understand the impact in a hypothetical future situation where the majority of transaction volume occurs off of ETH main-net and how it would impact the burn rate. If anyone knows of any writing on this I would appreciate a link.
