Is ADA using the term sharding as an analogy or will it actually use sharding technology?

Hi everyone, I was reading the roadmap and when I read the Basho page on scaling I started to have some questions. I din’t see any Cardano discord channel so I thought I’d give this channel a chance. My question is around the following sentence: *“Sidechains can be used as a sharding mechanism by off-loading work from the main chain onto a sidechain to increase the capacity of the network.”* Am I correct in reading between the lines that Cardano is not actually going to use Sharding technology, but is using the term sharding as an analogy? If anyone has any more information or a different interpretation, I am more than open to hear your thoughts!
