Unspent transaction output / Change Address

I noticed when I did a transaction to send money from a to b and there was 2 transactions, one with a change addresss? My question is did I do something wrong or is this a natural thing to happen? I thought the change address was a problem back in 2010 era, but I guess I am wondering if this is just an unusual occurrence or something that naturally happens or was it a user error. Appreciate the help.
