Is lightning network overhyped?

I see a lot of talk about lightning network on Reddit but it doesn't seem to have consumer adoption. Places like Coinbase, Cashapp, etc don't support it yet. I don't think it's a lack of knowledge at this point since I'm sure they're well aware of it. Lightning network has been around for a few years I think. Are there any technical reasons why people don't support it? I'm not bashing it or anything, just genuinely curious why I don't see it around more.
