How long can Bitcoin be deflationary for?

What happens if/when Bitcoin became the main currency replacing USD. Since it is deflationary things will get cheaper measured in Bitcoin, as opposed to inflationary price increases measured in USD. Eventually thing could cost only 1 Satoshi, can deflation keep going meaning that more and increasingly valuable things become worth only one Satoshi?

Or is there some way a Satoshi could no longer be the smallest unit of Bitcoin, ie more decimal places being added.
