Gifting btc

Hello.

I'm planning to gift a friend some bitcoin. I generated a Private key and btc address through bitaddress and I know how to transfer btc to the public address. However, when I provide my friend the private key, how can they export the btc to their personal cold wallets? That is the only confusing part which is how to access and transfer through a private key. Much thanks.
