51% attack question
Hi All, What's stopping a large corporation or government from creating thousands of nodes so that they effectively control 51% of the nodes? Then they could make a code change and enforce it on 'their' nodes effectively controlling the network. I saw that there are around 11000 active nodes atm. Couldn't a govt or corp create, lets say 12,000 nodes, and then control the network? I guess it would cost a lot and I've seen estimates in the 5 billion USD range to do this but that was a few years ago. But some of these large corps and govts have these kinds of resources at hand to spend that much don't they? What do you think? Possible or too expensive to undertake?
